"Amelia graduated from the Iowa College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1888 with highest honors of her class. Needless to say, it was very rare for a woman to become a doctor in those days and she was the first in her area. She married a college-mate, Dr. Wm Tigner and they practiced together in Churdan, Iowa, for 14 years. When [William] passed away, she returned to Panora (IA) with her daughter Hallah, and practiced there until her death. As far as I know, Hallah never married and left no heirs." (JDW 1987)
