footnotes
  1. Peter or Pierre. Roeser or Roser or Rosier or Rossier
  2. Alsace According to Karen Scramling, which seems to be substatiated by Bert Tolbert's visit to Bettwiller, France. Notes from Ila Mae Fritschle had indicated he was born in Northern Germany.
  3. Jere Wade writes that he died on his 80th birthday.
  4. Ila Mae Fritschle wrote that this was her name "before she changed it." Wade family records list her name as Magdelena Catherine Dueffort, but could this have been a confusion wih her daughter, Magdelena Catherine Roeser? Karen Scramling has that her name was Catherine Louisa Dueffort. Bert Tolbert's visit to Bettwiller points to Catherine Louisa Duffort (with an umlaut?). Other documents list Dueffort, Duffordt, Duffor with an umlaut.
  5. Ila Mae wrote June 26, 1840, Bert Tolbert and Jere Wade both have January 26, 1840.
  6. "In the castle," according to Ila Mae. In Alsace, according to Karen Scramling.
